Funding Programs
There are a number of funding programs available which help cover some of the costs associated with participating in a variety of recreation programs and sporting activities.
Kidsport and Canadian Tire Jumpstart are available to assist families with registration fees and equipment costs associated with participation in recreation and sports programs for children who are 19 years of age and younger. The Gary Boone Leadership Development Fund provides assistance for leadership training. The Bonvie-MacDonald Rinks to Links provides assistance to help cover the cost of hockey gear and registration fees.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart
Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a community based charitable program to get children active which will deliver assistance to financially disadvantaged children so they can participate in recreational activities and organized sport. Canadian Tire JumpStart provides funding for children for sport or recreation registration fees.
Application Information
Applications are accepted and reviewed six times a year. Application deadlines are: January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, September 1, October 1 & November 1.

Kidsport
Kidsport is a national children’s charitable program that helps disadvantaged kids overcome the barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. KidSport Nova Scotia provides funding of up to $500/year/child for sport registration and/or equipment.

Gary Boone Leadership Development Fund
Gary Boone Leadership Development Fund provides financial assistance to new initiatives in leadership training development which result in:
- Increased involvement in Physical Activity Leadership Roles.
- Increased and Improved Physical Activity leadership skills of Community Recreation & Sport Leaders.
Examples of eligible initiatives include: course to become certified instructors, coaching certification programs, referee clinics and more.

Rinks to Links Golf Classic
NHL’ers Dennis Bonvie and Craig MacDonald founded the Rinks to Links Golf Classic in 2004. Dennis and Craig wanted to show their thanks and appreciation to their home communities by assisting children to get involved with minor hockey that might otherwise not have the opportunity. Funds raised at the tournament assists children with their registration and gear costs.

RECREATION, SPORT AND CULTURAL TRAVEL ASSISTANCE GRANTS & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT GRANTS
The objective of the Recreation, Sport and Cultural Travel Assistance Grant Program is to provide travel assistance to youth teams, clubs or organizations travelling to sport or cultural competitions/tournaments outside of Antigonish County AND to provide travel assistance to local youth who have been selected as members of a provincial or national team.
The objective of the Leadership Development Grant Program is to provide travel assistance to youth travelling to workshops and conferences which are leadership based or educational in nature.
